Edible Rice Paper, Dimensions Variable.
Amorphous is an ongoing project that explores the materiality of rice paper. The material negotiations physically form the work – embracing moments of contingency – in the way the rice paper droops, rips and shrinks. In its installation, the work becomes a skin that exists autonomously, subverting its conventional need of a substrate for support. Losing its edible function, the rice paper holds a material memory of the labour and tools present in the art making process – the imprint of mesh and the left-over wire. The ephemeral nature of Amorphous challenges our understanding of rice paper – and food – as a consumable commodity.
